LISC’s chief executive comments on tax credits in the NYTimes

WHAT does it take to fix a neighborhood in decline? You’ll find the answer in Washington Park in Cincinnati, in the South Bronx, and in neighborhoods around the nation that are experiencing rebirth. Part of the answer is two federal programs that are imperiled in Congress, the Low Income Housing Tax Credit and the New Markets Tax Credit. In just the last year, these two programs attracted $14 billion in direct investment to build new affordable housing, restore commercial and retail districts, and create or preserve 160,000 jobs in some of the poorest zip codes of the country. So much of what is done in the nation’s capital needs fixing. Let’s not end what works.
