The Neighborhood Advisory Council (NAC) for West Philadelphia, based at The Partnership CDC, awarded ten block captains certificates for their completion of a Block Captains Computer Training course. With support and collaboration from People’s Emergency Center and LISC, the NAC offered the training to block captains across West Philadelphia.

By equipping block captains with confidence in using computers and specific skills related to their position as leaders and connectors, the training  looks to help inform and engage more West Philadelphia residents in neighborhood change, as well as connect more residents to resources and information available online.

The training responded to a specific need articulated by participants of the Block Captains Forum last August, which brought together block captains in West for networking, skill building, and knowledge sharing around issues related to community leadership and improving neighborhood quality of life.

With the pilot training completed, the partners will evaluate the program and decide the best strategy for bringing similar training opportunities for block captains in the future. Stay tuned!
